An Introduction to Crewel Embroidery by Mave Glenny
Crewel work is a traditional form of embroidery using woollen yarn, which has been used for about five centuries. An introductory guide to the techniques and stitches, this text includes an explanation of the history of the craft by the author and the basic steps involved in starting out. There is also special advice on use of colour and backgrounds to offset the embroidery. There are ten traditional and eight contemporary project designs in this book, including samplers, cushion covers, a firescreen, writing pad case, placement and tablecloth, a galleon picture and needlework organiser. Each is fully illustrated with patterns and colour photography and details of thread colours.
